Sponsor education and three meals a day for a visually challenged girl in Drishti for a month, INR 1000

Drishti was established in 1995 for educating visually challenged girls in the town of Karwi at the district of Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh. Chitrakoot district is an economically backward area in Uttar Pradesh, and there were no schools till then for visually challenged girls in the town of Karwi. Presently Drishti provides education for these children up to the intermediate level with residential facilities at no cost.

How It Works

• Training in music and other cultural activities is provided to these girls, thereby recognizing their talent in singing.
• There are quite a few full time teachers who impart the best education for these girls.
• These children are taken for exposure visits and workshops are conducted for the development and bright future of these visually challenged girls.
• In addition, Entrepreneurship Training Programme, and Home Management Skills Training Programme are conducted at the training centre.
• Braille books, Braille slates and kit are used by the students for reading and writing. • All the residential students are provided with food free of cost
• Drishti has its own kitchen where food is cooked.
• However, the NGO doesn’t have a specific donor who sponsors the food expenses.
• Hence, they welcome multiple donors.

• 11 months – Duration of the academic period
• 12 – Number of full time teachers

Success achieved by visually challenged students
Rani Prajapati, 16 years of age is a student of Drishti Blind School. Her father is a laborer in the village. Before she joined our school, she was staying at home. She was unable to do her daily activities without any help and she was dependent on others. Her parents were worried about her future. She joined our school in 2004 and is now in Grade X.
After she joined our school, we trained her in basic skills necessary for living. We taught her by using Braile techniques. She underwent mobility training and learnt to move and walk freely. She was also taught subjects like Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Social studies, Science and other subjects recognized by the government of Uttar Pradesh.
Now Rani can read Hindi and English with the help of Braille. She is confident now and she will appear for high school board Examination this year. She is dreaming of a bright future for her.
