Sponsor the education of one poor child for one month, INR 1950

KIRAN is an NGO which provides educational, vocational training and rehabilitation to underprivileged children from very poor families. It is situated in the outskirts of Varanasi city in Uttar Pradesh. The KIRAN education department has 264 students at present - 71 children with special needs in the Special Education Unit, and 193 children in the Integrated Primary Education Section. The integrated primary school has classes from nursery up to class 8 with equal ratio of boys and girls. The school has both able-bodied children and others who have an impairment (such as post-Polio-paralysis, Rickets, hearing and speech impairment or even Cerebral Palsy). All these children can still follow the normal curriculum (KIRAN is registered under the Uttar Pradesh board). All the teachers in the school are trained and well-experienced in handling these children. The integration of students with and without disability is KIRAN's strength and beauty, since it gives an opportunity to all students to appreciate and help each other. In addition, physiotherapy is offered to children who have a physical disability. A special educator is also available to help slow-learning children. This donation option will help sponsor the education cost of one poor child in this school for one month.

Deepu came to us as a 4 year old, abandoned child who was paralysed through polio.; her parents had actually just left her at the railway station
We in KIRAN took her in as our only abandoned child and gave her education and physiotherapy, and above all loving care through a Hostel Didi. Throughout her life in education unit she improved a lot. Only when she became a teenager she started to be very depressed, because understanding the terrible and sad fact that her parents had just abandoned her. With much patience and understanding the teachers and caretakers managed to always encourage her and helped her thus to accept finally her challenging life situation: KIRAN was after all now her loving and supportive family.
At present Deepu is doing her 12th class studies under the NIOS educational program. Although quite intelligent, due to the fact of being bound to a wheelchair she could not be admitted to a school outside the KIRAN Village. She is good in English and computer, and wishes to later on do further studies in these two subjects. But she also very much loves small children, and therefore she helps whenever possible in our hostel or in the Nursery class. We are confident that she will be able to become a happy person who can live with confidence and have the possibility to earn her living.
