Provide snack and lunch to an intellectually challenged poor child/youth by reimbursing their monthly costs, INR 500

Society for Child Development works to create a world of equal opportunities for children and young adults with mental handicap and other disabilities. Its first project, in 1992, was Prabhat, a school for children with learning difficulties in Shakti Nagar. The Prabhat Resource centre comprises of the Prabhat Special School and Vocational Training Centre (now called the Skill Development centre) and Apne Share Live-in centre. It was believed then, as it is now, that the path to self-actualization begins its journey when education is provided at the appropriate time and with quality. Thus, Prabhat provides its students with an educational and training facility that empowers them with the skills that are essential for a successful life as an adult. These skills include among others, those gained from academic, language, and behavioral and pre-vocational teachings. Over the years, the school has developed a systematic approach to the delivery of these services. An early stimulation service is also provided to enable as early a start as possible for integration with mainstream schooling wherever possible. Disabled children who graduate from Prabhat and have achieved some basic level of proficiency are sent to the Skill Development centre. They are trained in various skills like making nontoxic Holi colors, weaving, tailoring, candle making, paper making etc. based on their aptitude, intelligence and the type and extent of disability. Donations received from this option will be utilized for providing nourishing and wholesome midday snacks and lunch to the 60 intellectually-challenged children/youth being educated/ trained at Prabhat Special School/ Skill Development centre of Prabhat Resource centre.

Story of Anupam
Anupam was 8 years old when he enrolled in Prabhat. He had multiple disabilities including Cerebral Palsy. He was extremely weak and therefore unable to sit, eat or drink without help. His parents had sadly concluded that Anupam would never be able to lead a normal life and considered him to be a worthless burden.
Anupam is provided nourishing food. When his limbs picked up some strength he was taught the basic necessities of life with painstaking efforts over a prolonged period. Subsequently physiotherapy was given and some basic education was imparted in keeping with his ability to learn. Our effort was to make him as self reliant as a person with his disability can be.
The meals provided to him on a regular basis have brought about considerable improvement in his physical and mental well being. He can stand on his own with support, drives a wheelchair, sings songs and participates actively in games/fun activities. He can wear his clothes, play; can write his own name, a few 3 to 4 letter words and numbers and simple additions and subtractions. His life is valued now! He is learning to separate flower petals and separate seeds from the pods for making non toxic colours.
