Sponsor a 3-month computer course for an underprivileged woman, INR 2675

Association for Nontraditional Employment for Women (ANEW) runs vocational training courses on computers for underprivileged girls in Anna Nagar, Chennai. Majority of the trainees are from slums around Chennai and from nearby districts of Thiruvalur, Kanchipuram, Thiruvanamalai and Vellore. NGO provides the 3 month course of basic computer that include – MS.Office, Power point, Internet etc. After that beneficiaries decide whether which course they are interested like web design, tally course, DTP. 6 . Drop out ratio is 6 to 7. NGO provides placement to the beneficiaries. NGO provides the NIIT ANEW certification to the beneficiaries

How It Works

• The batch duration is 3 months and at any point there are 6 batches running.
• Expenditure on each student works out to Rs. 5,000.
• Total expenses for the course are Rs. 17.5 lakhs per annum, out of which the Tech Mahindra Foundation sponsors Rs. 4.4 lakhs (partly taking care of the computer teachers' salaries), and the remaining is met entirely out of general funds.

The Statistics

• Each batch has 20 girls and there are 18 batches conducted in a year.
• Batch time is 9 am to 11 am, 3pm to 5pm for college students and regular batch timing is 9 am to 1 pm

Story of Kavitha
Kavitha who was in her final year of college approached ANEW to join Basic IT course. Her father passed away when she was in school and had one elder sister and one younger brother. Her mother was not able to manage the house-hold expenses as well as the fees to be paid to the educational institutions of the children as a house keeping lady.
She was enrolled in the Basic IT course. She was trained in MS office, Typing and Internet Usage.
Kavitha completed her course and was immediately placed in a company called Vakkil Search.com at Annanagar and was paid Rs. 8000 for her first placement. Now Kavitha is able to support her mother in running her family.
