Contribute to a fund for our Out Patient Department to treat mentally challenged children, INR 1000

Ritham Special School was started in 2004 to cater to the needs of special children in and around Rajapalayam, Tamilnadu.

The Basics

A door-to-door survey conducted by Ritham revealed that there are plenty of mentally challenged/Cerebral Palsy children in their operating area. Most of these children’s parents' are daily wage earners. Through their early intervention centre, the NGO provides daily outpatient therapy. This helps children who have Cerebral Palsy/mental retardation.

How It Works

• Though the organization collects a nominal fee per day per kid for this service, they see a lot of irregularities in their visits.
• This is why they have dedicated a physiotherapist to take care of these kids only.

• 1-5 – Number of outpatients attended to by the physiotherapist
• 4 – Number of students when the school was started
• Rs. 30 – Fees charged per day per student for the outpatient therapy
• Rs. 2,800 – Salary of the physiotherapist

Help for David
Our Out patient therapy identifies the disability and gives awareness about the disability and prevents the contractures at very early stages and also prepares pre-academic skills. P.David Samraj was studied in a regular school since Grade 1 where his academics were poor and physically he could not walk more than 10 steps at a stretch.
We found he is a CP + MR kid and requires special education and physical therapy. Initially we gave physical therapy to avoid deformity. Now after continuous physical therapy of 2 years, he can walk independently and even do cycling. We also gave special education to improve his reading, writing and mathematics skills.
Now after 2years of intensive physical therapy and special education he is moved into mainstream normal education. We see the kids as people with rights, who must be extended the facilities available to other kids. Whatever talent they have must be given a chance to blossom. We felt so happy that this kid achieved this level.
