Provide groceries and medical care for an orphan/needy child, INR 1100

Bani Mandir, along with volunteers operates a programme to provide food and health support to orphans and children in need. It began in 1989 as an orphanage sponsored by Mission Swami Atmanada, France with 30 orphans which closed down in 2003, after the demise of the donor. The 30 orphans are now adults between 25 - 30 years of age. Some of them are well established and they are all in regular contact with Bani Mandir.

How It Works

• The children supported by Bani Mandir are needy and stay with single parents, not in orphanages and they come and collect the benefits from the office.
• The staff and volunteers choose the beneficiaries, with the help of the villagers and Village Development Committee based on the programme’s requirement and the village Panchayat’s recommendation.
• Individual donors, including GiveIndia Donors help Bani Mandir in cash or kind.
• An in-house Medical Officer does the distribution of food and medical checkups. • Medicines are provided by prescription.
• This programme is now run on individual donations, and the number of beneficiaries may have to be reduced due to unavailability of funds.
• All the items are given in kind only.
• Vegetables like potato & onion are usually given in permitted quantities. Eggs, vegetables & milk are given on a weekly basis.
• Bani Mandir pays the supplier directly for them.
• During the distribution of monthly ration, the children can get a routine health check up at Bani Mandir Health Centre.
• They can also visit the doctor on other days if they fall sick. Bani Mandir also occasionally organizes medical checkups at the camps in different villages.

The Basics

• The children supported by Bani Mandir are in need and stay with single parents, not in orphanages. They collect the benefits from the office.
• Bani Mandir staff & volunteers have made a detailed socio-economic survey in a village and found about 150+ children who live below the poverty line fit to be beneficiaries.
• The Panchayat members & V.D.C have acknowledged these survey records.
