Overview

St. Jude's India Childcare Centres provides a safe and clean environment to children recuperating from Cancer. These children, along with their families, travel to Mumbai from distant towns and villages, in the hope of being cured at the Tata Memorial Hospital.

¬¬¬ How It Works

• St. Jude’s provides these children with nutrition supplements and art material.
• The chemotherapy and radiation, which the children undergo, reduce the blood counts in their body.
• Hence, they require a healthy and nutritious daily supplements including a glass of milk, fruit, protein supplements, etc.

• This helps the children maintain their blood counts.
• While undergoing treatment, it is also important to help these children maintain a sense of normalcy by encouraging them to partake in regular activities (as they would have in their schools), such as art-based activities.
• These activities also have a therapeutic effect on the children.
• The art-based activities are implemented by St. Jude’s staff.
• This donation will be used to provide rations, to ensure that the child receives a healthy and nutritious diet, while at St. Jude.

Pawan’s Story – Another chance at life
Pawan’s father a daily wage labourer spent all the money saved for his daughter’s wedding on Pawan’s treatment. His grandparents thought Cancer was contagious and incurable and were just waiting for him to die! His father, however brought him to Mumbai for treatment and would have stayed on the streets were if not for the chance to stay at our Centre
We offered Pawan and his parents a place to stay while he underwent Chemotherapy. The parents were counseled by our Centre Manager and with the teacher helping Pawan with his school work, we made sure that he was not lagging behind his school mates when he returned to Jharkhand. We gave him nutritional supplements which helped in his therapy.
Because Pawan had a place to stay, he could successfully complete his sessions of Chemotherapy. Finally, because he is now a part of the St. Jude family, he knows he has a place to stay when he returns for his follow up treatment. Thus Pawan will be able to complete his treatment and live life like a normal child once again. Pawan continues with his education and has responded positively to his treatment because of the increased and better nutrition we have been supplying him with.
