Sponsor mid day meal for about 85 adults and children with intellectual disabilities, INR 1500

The objective of the Association for the Mentally Challenged (AMC) is to educate, train and rehabilitate mentally challenged individuals and their families. AMC provides milk and mid-day meals to all its students on all working days. Milk is given to all the children and ragi porridge is given to all adults in the morning at 10:30 am. Lunch consists of white rice, sambar with vegetables and curd rice. On week-days, meals come from The Akshaya Patra Foundation. On all Saturdays and during school vacation, when the vocational training centre works, AMC prepares the food. A special meal may be sponsored by a donor. This could be on the donor's birthday, anniversary and special occasions or on any other chosen day. This special meal will be served to all the children and the trainees who are mentally challenged. Additional dishes are made for the sponsored meal. The menu would consist of nutritious food with extra items like sweet, fruit and may be some flavoured rice instead of plain white rice. All children will be given milk and adult trainees will be given ragi porridge at 10:30 am as usual. AMC has 64 children and 79 adult trainees, 19 daycare children. There are about 37 working weeks. In a given week, there may be 2 or more sponsored meals.

Children enjoy nutritious food
Our students earlier brought their own lunch boxes, which often weren't nutritious and filling enough. This not only affected their growth, but their ability to concentrate as well.
Now that we provide meals to the children, we ensure that their nutritious needs are met. We serve them rice, curd, sajage (sweet), and sambar along with french beans, carrots, potatoes, beans, tomatoes. We also serve them with a glass of milk every morning, just to make sure they don't remain hungry in case they didn't have breakfast at home.
Thanks to the regular meals being served, the health and nutrition of these kids is assured. They also get to experience special food during festivals, and other occasions being celebrated by donors. Our children are currently very happy with the food being served here.
