Sponsor part treatment of a Retina/Glaucoma patient to save from total blindness, INR 15500

Dr Shroff's Charity Eye Hospital is considered to be one of the best Eye /ENT care providers in North India today. They are thankful to their donors in partnering their cause and giving sight/hearing to thousands of less privileged people.

The Basics

Glaucoma is a disease of the eye in which fluid pressure within the eye rises. If left untreated, the patient may lose vision and even become blind. The disease generally affects both eyes, although one may have more severe signs and symptoms than the other. There is a small space in the front of the eye called the "anterior chamber". Clear liquid flows in and out of the anterior chamber; this fluid nourishes and bathes nearby tissues. If a patient has glaucoma, the fluid does not drain properly - it drains too slowly - out of the eye. This leads to fluid build-up, and pressure inside the eye rises. Unless this pressure is brought down and controlled, the optic nerve and other parts of the eye may become damaged, leading to loss of vision.

From No Vision to Functional Vision
Balistar, a 12 years old boy from a small village called Hadobadhya, of District Goprakhpur, was absolutely normal before a tragedy struck him .Due to a fall and injury he suffered from total Retinal Detachment of both the eyes .His world became dark and he could hardly see. He was facing the danger of becoming totally blind for the rest of his life, if immediate surgery was not done.
He was admitted to the hospital and the Retina specialists did all the pre-surgery tests and investigations. Once he was found fit, an emergency surgery date was fixed. Over a period of 6 months his better eye was operated upon 2 to 3 times. He was always kept in the hospital ward for couple of days under observation & follow-up.
Today he has gained functional vision and can go about his daily activities. He is no more dependent on others for minor things, he can cross the road and manage to move about near his house on his own. The achievement in his case is that the doctors have been able to give him functional vision, which is much better than having NO Vision!
