Contribute to a fund to support a Cornea transplant surgery of a corneal blind person, INR 10500

Dr Shroff's Charity Eye Hospital is considered to be one of the best Eye /ENT care providers in North India today. They are thankful to their donors in partnering their cause and giving sight/hearing to thousands of less privileged people.

The Basics

Corneal Transplant is an operation used to remove all or part of a damaged cornea and replace it with healthy cornea tissue from the eye of a suitable donor. The cornea acts like the lens on the front of a camera. Light rays are bent into the eye at an angle, enabling a picture to be projected onto the retina (the light sensitive film at the back of the eye). This "picture" is then transmitted to the brain. When the cornea is damaged, it can become less transparent or its shape can change. This can prevent light from reaching the retina and causes the picture transmitted to the brain to be distorted or unclear.

Deepna sees the World again!
Deepna was only 3 years old when she lost vision in both her eyes followed by high fever & infection in her eyes. Resident of Jila Kannauj, Madhya Pradesh, she belongs to a poor family having 4 siblings. Her father, the sole bread-earner works as casual labour at a local sweet shop. She was admitted to the Blind school and there she was living with no hope of any miracle in her life! SCEH team happened to visit the blind school, where they planned to examine the eyes of the blind children to assess whether some of them who were suffering from corneal blindness had some life in their optic nerve too. .
In this way, SCEH Community Outreach team assessed that Deepna could benefit from Cornea Transplant surgery. After doing the necessary physical examinations and other investigations, a healthy cornea was procured (through Eye Bank) and finally she got a cornea transplant surgery by our Cornea Surgeon.
After four days of her surgery, she looked a happier person, as she had started to see from one of her eyes. The doctors say that her vision will improve with more passage of time. This was a very big achievement for the doctors as Deepna could see the world once again; she no longer requires to languish in the blind school and with some help she can pursue her studies or learn some craft. With the help of her vision in one eye, at least she will not be a burden on others for her daily chores. She is now determined to fulfill her dream of becoming a teacher.
