Ashray Akruti provides education to hearing impaired children.

How It Works

• Beneficiaries are identified through medical camps and referrals from doctors.
• Occasionally, they come to know through the NGO's website or newspaper articles.
• With a team of qualified staff to cater to their special needs, these students are taught by oral aural method (which combines speech, use of residual hearing and speech reading).
• The child is trained to use his/her hearing and develop expressive speech.
• Regular state syllabus is followed in the classrooms along with speech therapy and auditory training.

An underprivileged child getting educated
Sunitha, age 10 years, comes from a family of rural background. Her father is a watchman and mother works as housemaid. With their meagre income they have to run a family of five members. Sunitha used to go to a Telugu medium school but due to the poor financial condition she had to discontinue her studies.
Since she came from Telugu medium school it was quite difficult for her to study in English medium. Teachers at Ashray Akruti were able to identify her problem and started intensively focusing on improving her English gradually. We follow low teacher (1:5) student ratio so that each child gets individual attention.
Sunitha now shows keen interest in studies and is a student of Grade 4. She has made lots of friends and actively participates in extra curricular activities. Her favourite subject is Social Studies and she aspires to become a Doctor.
