Educate an underprivileged child - Single donation, INR 100

Empowering Minds Society for Research and Development designed a Sponsor-A-Child program so as to get the donor for each child at the centre. They have 135 children enrolled at 2 centres; in an urban slum in Ghaziabad and in Gorakhpur, which is a rural township. The children coming to the centres are from migrant labourer families, Below Poverty Line (BPL) families, schedule castes, and families whose total income is between Rs. 3,000-4,000. Not surprising then that these children are out-of-school, drop outs, or working . Only half of them are able to pay school fees (which is a nominal amount of Rs. 100). A centre is manned by 1 principal and 5 volunteer teachers and an ayah. It is a rented place in the midst of an urban slum. A center runs Mondays to Saturdays from 8am and 2pm and teaches students from class 1 to 5. After that, Empowering Minds helps get the children enrolled them in other schools (Government or Private) and they monitor the same. This donation will be used to provide books and stationary to all children, and unforms to some of them.

From Darkness to Light
Fareen, 11 yrs has 4 brothers and 2 sisters. From the very beginning Fareen showed interest in the studies but had no means to study. At a very young age Fareen lost her parents. Her mother died of tuberculosis and her father once left home for work and never returned. The grandparents divided the children among themselves and she came to live with her maternal grandmother with her 12 yr old brother.
Empowering Minds school teacher noticed the interest of the child and admitted her to our school. At first she was reluctant and her grandmother was also apprehensive in sending her. But when we gave her uniform and books she was very happy. Her grandmother was also counselled to send Fareen as well as her brother to school daily.
Fareen is regularly coming to school. But her brother comes as and when he feels like. She is a bright student, passed with 95% marks and stood 2nd in her Grade. She takes part in the co-curricular activities and participates in the school activities. Her grandmother is very grateful for finding a support for her educational needs.
