Sponsor salaries of persons with disabilities working in tea packing unit - Single donation, INR 100

The primary objective of Atma Nirbhar – Ek Challenge is to improve the'quality of life' of the marginalized and disadvantaged people living in residential social welfare institutions, by providing them with outside assistance, mobilized through donations.

The Basics

The residents living in social welfare residential institutions like destitute Homes, vagrants’ Homes etc. are generally living in very deprived conditions. They are cut-off from the society. They feel neglected and forgotten by the the outside world, and very often, even by their own families. The NGO aims to change this situation by celebrating festivals and organizing other events in these institutions.

How It Works

• The members of the NGO encourage the donors to celebrate a birthday or death anniversary of a loved one in such an institution.
• On festivals, the residents are offered gifts of gulal, diyas, phuljharis --- small gifts of kindness.
• The NGO staff visits these institutions at regular intervals, specially, ahead of the major local festivals like Bihu, Holi, and Diwali etc.
• They carry gifts of recreational items, useful essential items and snacks to share with the residents.
• They arrange celebrations of birthdays and special occasions of the donors in these institutions.

• 13 – Number of residential social welfare institutions covered by the NGO
• 850 – Number of residents in these institutions

Spreading Sunshine
Though the homeless and disadvantaged sections of society have residential welfare institutions to look after them, they often feel neglected by mainstream society, and end up leading a lonely life, with not much to look forward to.
In an effort to bridge this gap, we visit these institutions at regular intervals, specially during major local festivals like Bihu, Holi, and Diwali. We celebrate these occasions with the residents by taking snacks and recreational games with us. We also arrange for the general public to celebrate their birthdays and special occasions with the residents of these institutions.
This program helped us bridge the gap between the residents and outside public. This led to the residents looking forward to our visits with great energy and enthusiasm. The gifts were also appreciated by the residents as well as the Management of the institutions.
