Overview
Government Civil Hospitals in India provide free or low-cost medical care to the less privileged in our country. The Sassoon General Hospitals (S.G.H.) is a vast teaching hospital providing medical care to individuals in Pune District in the state of Maharashtra. Patients from all walks of life, especially those living Below the Poverty Line (BPL) from the city of Pune and adjacent rural areas, come to seek treatment at this medical centre, which was established more than a century ago by the philanthropist David Sassoon.
How It Works
• With a large number of beds and an equally large clientele of out-patients, the hospital caters to those suffering from Diabetes, Tuberculosis, Cancer, Burns, Orthopaedic problems and children in need of Paediatric care.
• Through this initiative SOFOSH provides counselling as well as economical support to these patients.
• Along with medical support, many times SOFOSH also provides nutrition, counselling, and financial support to families through educational sponsorship for their children.
• Hence, the average support given to a patient is being collected via this donation.
• It goes into a fund and is used as per the needs of individual patients.
• SOFOSH sometimes supports the patient even after the treatment is over.
