Be a God parent by sponsoring needs of a differently abled adult living in Raphael Home for a month, INR 7000

Raphael was founded in April, 1959. The NGO is located at Dehra Dun, in Uttarakhand. The organization offers its services in various areas for the relief of suffering. Raphael takes care of intellectually challenged children and adults by providing them with hostel facility, care, education and training.

How It Works

• The organization supports a number of adults who were brought to the centre by their parents/ guardians many years back. Unfortunately, nobody has come to claim these individuals till date, and they are left under the care of the staff.
• There are male and female helpers, who take good care of these individuals.
• Raphael also provides them with vocational training in different activities based on their capabilities. These activities range from gardening, peon training, candle making, manufacturing of fabric and paper products.

• 23 – Total number of adults at the centre

A Second Home
Kamal Bhandari was one among the many children and adults with intellectual disabilities who was admitted in Raphael hostel and was not able to perform most of the daily chores. Kamal Bhandari was admitted to Raphael hostel for the mentally challenged in the year 2006. He was admitted so that he could be imparted training in daily living skills and subsequently in some vocational activity.
Kamal Bhandari along with other children and adults was put in the care of Ward Boys and Special Educators. The Ward boys handled the requirement of daily chores and daily living skills. The Special Educators attended to the behavioral problems. Kamal Bhandari showed potential for learning a vocation. Accordingly, he was trained in making candles in the candle workshop.
Today Kamal Bhandari is employed in Rehabilitative workshop run by Raphael as a worker for manufacture of candles. He is paid a Stipend to maintain his motivation. The other children and adults are now proficient in all the daily living skills and those with potential for learning a vocation are trained in those vocational skills. He continues to lie in Raphael hostel.
