" Overview

The Mahila Dakshata Samiti is a non-governmental organization dedicated to the upliftment of women and children, particularly those in distress. Inspired by the success achieved, branches were set up across the country. The Mahila Dakshata Samiti – Karnataka Chapter (MDS – KC) was established in 1992.

How It Works

• The NGO places ads in newspapers every year inviting applications for financial aid for college education from girls with good marks coming from financially challenged families.
• The applications and marks cards are scrutinized and MDS members or field workers visit the homes to check for genuineness.
• Aid is given according to need.
• At this point of time their funds for this programme come mainly from GiveIndia and concerned people.
• The interview takes place in May before admissions.
• Potential students are identified.
• After the fee receipt is produced funds are disbursed.
• The criteria for receiving this kind of support are fees paid, financial status and marks.
• Fee paid receipts are scrutinized, and photocopies collected before distributingthe money in the form of crossed cheques are given.
• Educational aid is provided till the student finishes her education, provided she applies every year, the family financial situation is the same and she does well at her exams.
• Some of the students are being given aid since class 11.
• Some have passed out.
• Some are in their final year and so on.
• Few engineering and medical students were helped in 2014-15 mainly with GiveIndia funds.

• 3 – Number of medical students who were helped in the year 2014-15
• 14 – Number of engineering students who were helped in the year 2014-15

Making dreams come true - to become a professional
Archana is the daughter of a family which earns less than Rs. 4000 a month. She secured 98% in her Grade 10 exam and 95% average at the II PUC exam. Her high marks helped her secure a seat in an engineering college. However the annual expenditure that the family would have to incur was beyond their financial capacity
Archana replied to our advertisement inviting applications for financial aid for further studies. Her application was scrutinized and MDS staff were sent to check genuineness.
She is studying in PES Institute and doing very well with a grade point average of 9.0/10. She has reached her final year of Engineering (4th Year-2010-11) and her dream of a better life for herself and her family through higher education is on the verge of coming true.
