Mid Morning Meal helps keep children focused on studies
The students studying in BDP School are from less privileged rural community. These families do not serve breakfast to their children, so they just have tea or butter milk or milk (in few cases) before leaving for school. In some cases, due to financial constraints they come empty stomach as the food can be prepared only for lunch. The students start feeling hungry a few hours into the classes and unable to concentrate and start giving excuses to return home early. Thus, they remain weak in studies; overall their mental and physical health remains poor. They often fall sick and remain absent from school for longer periods. There is a definite necessity for healthy and nourishing food at this time.
The condition now has stabilized. The attendance of students is good. Absenteeism has reduced. Motivation to come to school is high and positive. Concentration in studies is good. Their mental and physical health improves considerably. At present because of paucity of funds the mid morning meal is served to all students of BDP School minimum once in a week – four times a month. It is felt that whenever the financial condition improves, the management will start giving meals to all students on all working days studying in BDP School.
The BDP School management took a note of the detoriating condition of students, as their mental and physical health during medical examination found poor and weak. On the advice of the medical team, school started giving mid morning meal consisting of healthy and nourishing items in the meal. The students after the meal are happy and stay focused. Their attendance has also improved and absenteeism has reduced considerably. Their achievements improved and they feel motivated to come to school. Students stop giving excuses to leaving early for home.
