Overview
In the early 1970s , a socialist group of youth began seeking solutions to social and political problems of the rural community with the general aim of achieving a more just and happy society. After nearly 20 years of effort and agitations, they concluded that socio-political change was not possible without economic change. Hence, they established Manavlok, in 1982, a voluntary organization for the socio-economic upliftment of the rural poor. The beneficiaries are locals of Ambajogai and around who need guidance and help in living a better quality of life.
How It Works
• Manavlok works directly with the beneficiaries for this project-Since they've been around for 25+ years, they have a fairly good idea about the locality and the beneficiaries. They've also formed Village Sanitation and Nutrition Committees in each village, where the members of the committee(villagers themselves) also help them identify potential beneficiaries.
• Manavlok guides all its beneficiaries to a particular store to procure fertilizers and seeds from. The beneficiaries then buy fertilizers and seeds in the quantities that they need (the org is pretty sure that thy don't misuse the resources) and the store sends all the bills to Manavlok, which then pays the storekeeper in cheque.
Statistics
• 45 people benefited out of this program last year.
