Sponsor the cost required to provide special education to a hearing impaired child in Kadapa, INR 1100

Ashray Akruti provides education to hearing impaired children.

How It Works

• Beneficiaries are identified through medical camps and referrals from doctors.
• Occasionally, they come to know through the NGO's website or newspaper articles.
• With a team of qualified staff to cater to their special needs, these students are taught by oral aural method (which combines speech, use of residual hearing and speech reading).
• The child is trained to use his/her hearing and develop expressive speech.
• Regular state syllabus is followed in the classrooms along with speech therapy and auditory training.

The centre in Kadapa has three main programs: School for hearing impaired children, auditory verbal therapy (AVT) for children who have been newly diagnosed, and Early Intervention for children below the age of 6. The students who are a part of AVT come to the centre in specified hour long slots along with a parent/guardian. The parents are supposed to observe the techniques closely and replicate the same at home in order to aide faster recovery. The children who attend the centre for the school are all grouped into two different classes based on their learning levels, and not according to their age.

An underprivileged child getting educated
When two year old Shubhanbi was discovered to be hearing impaired, her auto driver father and homemaker mother were traumatised to say the least. With no sufficient income and no resources in Kadapa, they felt lost and helpless.
Thankfully though, they found out that Ashray Akruti started a school in Kadapa and enrolled her immediately. They were overjoyed when they found out that Hans Foundation agreed to do a Cochlear Implant surgery for her. Once Shubhanbi came back from the surgery at Max Hospitals in Delhi, she started receiving Audio Verbal Therapy at school.
Shubhanbi is making excellent progress with the intensive speech therapy that she is receiving at the centre. Her listening skills have vastly improved; and she is able to respond to others by listening. She is now able to communicate in complete sentences. Her parents are overwhelmed to see this transformation in their child.
