Overview

Sankara Eye Hospital conducts rural outreach eye screening camps through its Kannoli-Vision Saver Project. These camps are conducted every day in the villages of Kanchipuram, Thiruvallur and Chittoor districts.

How It Works

• Sankara’s staff examine and select the patients.
• Those who are in need of surgical procedures are brought to the hospital via the hospital’s own transport.
• Pre-operative procedures are done on the first day, followed by surgery with Intra Ocular Lens the next day.
• Finally, on the third day, they are dropped back to their village after post-operative evaluation and after having given them dark glasses.
• During their stay, accommodation, food and medicines are provided absolutely free of cost.
• Sankara provides tea in the morning and evening, Idly-Sambar for breakfast, Rice-Sambar-Curry-Buttermilk for lunch, Rice-Rasam-Koottu-Buttermilk for dinner.
• For Diabetic patients, Chapatti or Sambar-RavaUpma is served.
• Patients are served as much as they wish to eat.
• The food served to the patients is cooked in the hospital’s own kitchen.
• The attendant also gets free food.

• 1 – Number of attendants per camp
• 50 – Number of free cataract surgeries with Intra Ocular Lens are performed daily
