Support the health care of disabled children by paying for their Medical Fund, INR 1000

KIRAN Society deals with different neurological conditions, one of them being epilepsy and spasticity, which require term medication. Epilepsy is a chronic medical disorder or condition, usually resulting in unpredictable, unprovoked recurrent seizures that affect a variety of mental and physical functions. It is one of the most common neurological diseases, affecting more than 1.4% of the population in India with higher estimates in children and young adults in rural areas. Nearly 95% people with epilepsy in India don't receive any treatment. But, epilepsy is a controllable disease. As per experts, 30% of cases, which are mainly caused by infections in the brain like tuberculosis, are completely curable while in 60% of the patients, seizures can be completely controlled. In rural India, epilepsy is often associated with substantial stigma, with most people with epilepsy less likely to be sent to school, find employment or get married. This program supports children and youngsters with disabilities and other marginalized children in our working area. Our team identifies them through assessments and medical examinations. Our social workers help ensure the regular usage of medicines as prescribed by doctors. Through this program, patients get free medical examination and medicines as per requirement. KIRAN school children will get free health check-up and required medicines.

Mr. Ajeet suffers from Cerebral Palsy and has a lot of spasticity in all his limbs. Though he was trying his best to manage his life, carrying out daily activities like bathing and using the washroom by himself turned out to be extremely difficult. When his father passed away after suffering from severe illness, the family was left with no regular source of income. We identified him through our door to door survey program. He had severe deformities at different joints of his limbs- Both his legs were in the scissoring position, because of which he was unable to use the toilet as well. We also discovered that he was suffering from epilepsy, which his mother was completely unaware of.
Now, he is able to move here and there with the help of his wheelchair. He is looking after his buffaloes, which are the only source of his income. He got a house with an attached toilet through the Indira Awas Yojana, and is now actively involved in community initiatives.
We started our rehabilitation process after a detailed assessment. Our therapists gave him regular therapy to release spasticity. We also encouraged and taught his mother basic therapy that she could use at home. Our neurologist started giving him medicines to control his epilepsy and spasticity. After three years, he is now finally free from epilepsy.
