Sponsor college education for a girl by reimbursing her annual fees, INR 5000

SCB has a formed School Membership Committee from amongst its members which approaches schools grade 8-10) and colleges (Grade 11 up to Graduations) to recommend bright but needy children who require financial help with paying fees etc. This happens in the month of May. The programme awards scholarships with the basic criterion of family poverty. Colleges maintain records of family circumstances (income, parents work etc.), which are checked through direct parent interviews. The records are reviewed by SCB member volunteers. A second criterion is good conduct as certified by the professors. These certificates are further reviewed by the Principal before the candidates are selected. Monthly mark sheets are reviewed to check for student attention to studies and hard work. The recommended students are required to fill a form detailing personal details including family income. They need to submit the previous year’s mark sheet attested by the school/ college, as well. The cutoff is 65% but some very needy children below this cutoff are also considered. SCB receives over 300 applications every year. Each application is vetted by the committee. All shortlisted candidates are called for a personal meeting along with parents. SCB member volunteers participate in parent-professors meetings to confirm suitability. The beneficiaries receive tuition and education according to the University syllabus. In some cases full year college fee is paid to students who are very poorSCB undertakes to pay only part pf the fees as they believe that some onus must fall on the parents. This would be between Rs.3000-Rs. 5000 in case of school and up to Rs.15000 for college. In addition to these two categories SCB also supports students studying specialized courses such as Engineering, Medicine, or Mathematics. In these cases, the amount funded by SCB goes up to Rs.30000 In 99% of cases, SCB pays the fees directly in the school or college’s name, by cheque upfront through their reserve funds. The cheques are handed over to the Principal/ Head Master or to the students. The fee receipts are maintained at SCB. In 1% cases, the students pay the fees directly and submits the fee receipts as proof of payment, in which case the same is reimbursed to them, again by cheque Once approved, SCB is committed to supporting these students until they complete their education as long as they continue to get 65% grades and attend classes regularly.
