Overview

Vathsalya Charitable Trust was started in 1988 with the goal of providing a family and a home for orphaned and abandoned children. The organization’s mission is to preserve and provide a sustainable environment for a healthy mother, children and families by providing nutrition, education, and counselling.

How It Works

• The students are selected from economically weak families from different schools, with the support of the Principals and teachers in identifying them.
• Our staff visits the schools and homes of the selected children to meet the parents and the children and get information about the background of the family, an update of the child, development in studies and health details.
•Fees are paid directly to the school via cheque. This is just part of the actual fees. For this donation option, we will keep 2 schools- Pine Hall English school (25 students) & Mohre Public school (40 students). All are girls.
• Apart from fee support, Vathsalya staff also does one day workshops in collaboration with the school, in their premises, for the children along with their parents on relevant topics, which are not part of the regular school syllabus / schedule.
• Our staff visits the schools every quarter and meets the teachers to get information about the child; getting the school reports, analyzing the improvement in studies and other activities.
Statistics

• 850 – Number of students currently under this scholarship program.
• Most students are girls.

Educating a Girl child
Lipika Murthy belongs to the lower income group. Her father passed away due to cardiac arrest and mother is a tailor by profession. The income earned by the mother is too low to maintain the family expenses as well as educating the children. She has one younger sister who is studying in LKG in the same school.
Lipika is studying in Grade 7 at Mohre Public School, Bangalore. We took the child under our sponsorship programme to enable her to continue her studies. With our financial support for her studies, the mother is sure that her daughter will study further without any hindrance. She enjoys singing and loves watching music channel. Her favourite colors are Navy Blue, Black and Purple. She has many friends in school and enjoys school.
Lipika is good in studies and scored 89% securing A Grade in the midterm exam. The mother is thankful for the education support given to Lipika.
