Sponsor to a fund to provide medicines for approx 15 children with disability, INR 1000
 Mail

Several children and young adults with disability residing in the marginalized slum settings of Shivaji Nagar Govandi have poor health conditions owing to their impairment and also due to poor nutrition status and unhygienic living conditions. Very often children develop bone deformity owing to calcium deficiency at a very early stage of growth, which leads to an irreversible damage of the limb structure. Children also have to face other illnesses and sickness due their weak bodies.

The Basics

One of the common associated ailments is Epilepsy and requires regular medication to control seizures and falls. Children require monthly medicines and each case is handled individually and medicines are procured as per each child’s requirement. The time required for the process of medical examination, identification of a suitable medical shop and the final support of giving the medicine to the child may take a maximum of fifteen days. Many small children in our community tend to get bone deformity owing to calcium deficiency and require regular calcium supplement to keep their bones healthy and to ensure proper growth.

Sarfaraz has not lost hope
Sarfaraz was born in their own house. After a month and a half, his mother suffered from TB and died after some time. After a year and a half, he started suffering from partial sightedness. Sarfaraz used to go to school until he was in the 8th standard. However, when he got into the 9th standard, he began to fall sick and used to faint and got episodes of seizures.
When he was 6 years old, he used to come to Apnalaya’s Padma Nagar clinic for a general check. He was advised with calcium and other vitamins for his illness. However, his episodes of seizures did not subside; he was thus referred to JJ Hospital. . After a medical check in JJ, he was diagnosed with brain tumour. He was asked to get the tumour operated. His father approached Apnalaya and was able to get some support for his operative procedure. He was also referred to other organisations that support for surgical procedures. He was thus collectively supported and Apnalaya could support him for a mere Rs 5,500 for his surgical procedure.
His operation proved successful. However, he was left completely blind and he was left paralysed from the left side of his body. His family did try to avail the Rajiv Gandhi Scheme, but his documents were not complete. He has been supported for medicines from 2012 and is still availing the same.
