Support a poor woman tribal farmer to purchase certified seeds and vermi-compost for her vegetable garden, INR 2250

RBKS works with poor and marginal farmers since 1990 under their food security programme. Farmers are provided with seeds & vermi- compost and are also trained in preparing vermi- compost. The training includes exposure visits. This activity helps the whole family as both men and women are engaged in farming. Male members of the family work during sowing and mulching, but day-to-day care of the crops is done by women. After home visits, and group meetings RBKS field workers select beneficiaries based on economic background and need. The organization maintains complete details of all the shortlisted farmers The NGO organizes an exposure visits for the farmers with agriculture experts who speak to the farmers on the benefits of vermi composting and also train them on how to prepare the compost. Seeds and vermi compost is distributed. Training is given before and after the sowing of fields. The agriculture experts get feedback and give suggestions on a weekly basis. A meeting of all farmers is organized on a quarterly basis. The programme happens in the monsoon season of June, July and August.

Life changed for Kalki Bai thanks to new technology
Kalki Bai a widowed lady from Surajgarh village of Udaipur district is a farmer with a small piece of land. The quality of her crop was poor therefore she never got a chance to sell this in the market. Most times she did not have enough money to buy seeds.
RBKS provided her training, certified seeds of vegetables and a Vermi-compost unit was constructed on her field. She was also provided training on how to produce the vermin compost in future. The organization also arranged for exposure trips to give her first hand experience. For the second crop Kalki is able to purchase certified seeds and use the vermin compost from her own unit.
After our intervention the production on her land increased by 25 percent. Due to this nowadays she is able to sell her produce at good price in the market. She is now an expert in selection of seeds for crop production and also in vermicomposting. She is an inspiration to her friends and neighbouring farmers. With this intervention RBKS has transformed a rural life.
