Educate a poor student by reimbursing annual college fees, INR 5000

The aim of Senior Citizens Bangalore (SCB) is to mould particularly the underprivileged children, to become useful citizens of Society and prevent them from going astray.

How It Works

• The programme awards scholarships to students with the basic criterion of family poverty.
• Colleges maintain records of family circumstances (income, parents’ work etc.), which are checked through direct parent interviews.
• The records are reviewed by Senior Citizens Bangalore (SCB) member volunteers.
• A second criterion is good conduct as certified by the professors.
• Monthly mark sheets are reviewed for assessing the student’s hard work and amount of attention that they pay to academics.
• The professor’s reports are reviewed by the Principal and candidates are selected; SCB member volunteers participate in parent-professors meetings to confirm suitability of the candidates.
• College fees for the selected students are met by SCB out of the current SCB budget and paid to the College.
• The beneficiaries receive tuition and education according to the University syllabus at no charge
• SCB funds are provided from donations received from individuals/corporate.
• All scholarship holders have been doing well in the annual examinations, and their scholarships are extended to the next level to which they are promoted, after taking note of satisfactory performance.
• The students pay the fees and submit receipts for reimbursement or in most cases, the college fees are directly paid to the institute by SCB.

Equal opportunity provided to Tennarasan
Many students drop out due to financial constraints or irregular attendance because of disinterest due to lack of sharing with family on the study experience. Had no hope ofeven completing undergraduate courses. Parents sometimes got into heavy debts and stopped their children’s education.
Tennarasan, for an example, is pursuing IVth year engineering in Oxford College of engineering, Bangalore with the financial support provided by Senior Citizens. He has been continuously helped since high school, which keeps his motivation and interest levels high.
The aim is to help students from poor families to aspire to and complete higher education to join a mainstream job, improving their lifestyles. The scholarships are a major incentive and encouragement; attendance is nearly 100%. Many students move on from primary schools onto high schools and many go on to complete graduate courses. SCB has commenced selective support for higher studies.
