Mission/Vision
Vidya & Child works with the mission to help bridge the gap for those children who need education and have no access to the facilities for learning existing in our society. It works toward providing a learning environment which can lead to a strong educational foundation as well as help a child in identifying the uniqueness within. It caters to 1500+ children across 4 centres in Noida and 1 in Siwan, Bihar.
 
Background
The Trust started its activities by supporting education of 2 children of domestic servants. Both did very well in their classes. This reinforced the belief that given the right atmosphere and opportunity all children can excel despite their background and challenges..
 
Ms Supriya Akhaury is a qualified Chartered Accountant who left her practice in1998 to start Vidya & Child with just 2 children. Today after 19 years Vidya & Child reaches out to over 1600+ children. This would not have been possible without her passion and commitment towards her chosen cause. According to her Vidya & Child is an opportunity for every child to complete school education within the mainstream, understand his or her own self to be able to overcome challenges, help the child in understanding what his/ her creative strengths are, all of which ensures that each child carves out a more meaningful life for himself or herself.

 Ritu Kumar - Towards excellence
Ritu is from UP. Ritu joined Vidya & Child at the age of 6 in Nursery. She had not been to a school earlier. She was a very mischieveous child who was never interested in studies, was very talkative and would disturb others in class. In order to make her more attentive and responsible she was given individual attention by the class teacher. She was given small tasks which she handled independently and felt very proud and good about herself. A small pat on the back by her teacher or a small praise infront of the whole class did wonders to her behaviour. She always wanted to be seen as a good student and that also reflected in her studies. Today, she is in Class IV and is doing good in all fields be it academics or otherwise. She is a confident child with leadership qualities. She manages to make her peers listen while she is speaking. She is very attentive in class and asks a lot of questions. She has a very positive attitude and is full of energy.
 
 Integrating computers as part of the curriculum
Children attended regular classes where teaching was restricted to use of blackboard, books and other teaching aids like posters, flash cards etc… We introduced use of computers initially on a trial basis to explain certain Science & Math concepts to students of Class III. Children were allowed to play with a few science games and quizzes thereafter. Children could understand the concept clearly with the help of a 3D visual medium. They could answer questions posed to them with more confidence. Even the teachers felt that use of computers helps them explain certain concepts better. Children enjoyed the class and look forward to these classes.
