Background
SOFOSH is a non government charitable organisation established in 1964 to supplement the efforts of the Sassoon General Hospitals, Pune by offering a wide range of patient welfare services. SOFOSH renders services to the economically underprivileged patients of the Sassoon General Hospitals. It has also been running a government recognised and licensed Child Care Centre " Shreevatsa" since 1973,which provides care and rehabilitation services to the institutionalised children.All efforts are made to rehabilitate these children through the well established adoption programme. The TARA- SOFOSH Dhadphale centre was established in 2008, which provides care and shelter for the mentally /physically challenged and orphan children.All efforts are made to provide shelter, care, educational and medical aid to these children to facilitate their growth and development.
 
Mrs. Sharmila Sayed is the Administrative In charge of SOFOSH since the year 2014.She is working with SOFOSH for more than 20 years and has handled various responsibilities in the organisation. She has done M.S.W. (Master of Social Work) from Bharati Vidyapeeth with specialisation in "Family and Child welfare".She has represented SOFOSH on various platforms in the field of social work.Her expertise are in-country and inter-country adoption, handling legal and labour related matters and handling matters related to other Govt Organisations, NGO, government authorities, police authorities etc.

 Secured home for abandoned children
When Omkar came to Shreevatsa in Oct 2009, he was 11 days old weighing a meager 2.5kg. After a series of medical investigations it was found that he had TGA(Transposition of Great Arteries), VSD(Ventricular Septal Defect), PDA (Patent Ductus Arterious) and Juxtaposed RAA (Right Atrial Appendage). His case was declared as high risk case for the surgical repair. An Artial switch surgery was recommended for him. After thorough medical investigation it was recommended that the mentioned surgeries are necessary for his survival. SOFOSH initiated discussions with Narayan Hrudayalaya Hospital and doctors told that he has to weigh min. 5kg to undergo surgery. With special efforts his progress with proper nutritional care on 13th July he was taken to Bangalore and operated on 20th July for Left modified Blalock Taussig Shunt using 5mm Goretex Graft. After surgery he is recuperating at Shreevatsa premises where special care is given showing positive responses which is helping him live his life with ease. This surgery is a stepping stone for him to lead a normal life. SOFOSH is looking for a family for his adoption where he will get an individual attention and medical care. Like any regular child Omkar too has a right to have loving parents and his own protective home.
