 Happy, Independent & Confident Maheeda
10 year old Madeeha was a hyperactive child with limited social skills. Fearful and shy, she was hesitant to approach other people. Because of her hyperactive nature, she found it difficult to sit in one place, and wasn't toilet trained either. Thanks to the Special teachers at AMC, Madeeha was toilet trained, given speech therapy, and taught to take care of her body. Her parents were given guidance and counseling by a psychiatrist as well, which helped them work with her better while at home. Working and sharing classroom space with 15 other children began to improve her social skills. After going through four years of Life Skill Development at AMC special school, Madeeha can now speak in broken sentences. She is now toilet trained and has learned to take care of herself. Her interaction with other children has greatly improved as well.
 From Burden to Joy
Twenty nine year old Lalitha suffered from mild mental retardation and was considered a burden by her parents. She attended AMC’s special school where she learnt social skills, and reading and writing. At the AMC Vocational Training Centre, she was taught needlecraft, which she pursued with great curiosity and interest. Her instructor was very impressed and trained her in the tailoring section as well, where she learnt to operate machines and cutting and stitching fabric. Thanks to her boundless curiosity and zeal, she also learnt to operate computers and a photocopying machine. Lalitha was overjoyed when she took her first stipend home. She wants to buy bangles for her mother and some for herself with the money she earned. She is currently operating a Xerox machine independently, and loves the sense of freedom and self-worth that comes with it. Once she finishes her computer course, she will be shifted to the shelter workshop.
