One day equip all students with the education, skills and character they need to lead empowered lives.
 
Background
Shaheen Mistri started the Akanksha Foundation in 1991. When she was 18 years old she visited her grandparents who were in Bombay, and on that particular visit of hers, she saw the inequality in education between the private and the public schools.
 
Saurabh Taneja is the founding school leader of Acharya Vinoba Bhave School, Akanksha's first stand-alone secondary school (Gr 8-10) which was started in 2013. During the 4-years of school leadership, he has ensured that ALL students pass the high stakes Gr 10 exam and join the junior college. The school's success has inspired Akanksha, other organizations and local government authorities to start similar school models in the city, taking the number of such schools to 8. Before joining Akanksha Foundation, he worked extensively with Bodh Shiksha Samiti, UNICEF and Govt. of Rajasthan on large scale school transformation project, influencing key policy level changes at state government level. Saurabh is also a Teach for India fellow, and taught for two years in a government run school in sub-urban Mumbai. It was the challenges that his students and parents faced in ensuring continuity of schooling beyond Grade 7, that made him aware of systemic void because of which several students were slipping through the cracks. He has completed his Bachelors in Technology from prestigious Indian Institute of Delhi.

1 Vandana Goyal Vandana is the ex-CEO of the Akanksha Foundation. In 2007, she became the Director of The School Project, launched to create a network of high-achieving schools within the government system. She took over as CEO in January of 2010.
2 Meher Pudumjee Meher is the Chairperson of Thermax Ltd, a company focused in the businesses of energy and the environment. Meher Pudumjee is daughter of Arnavaz Aga.
3 Shaheen Mistri Shaheen is the Founder of Akanksha and the CEO of Teach for India.
4 Anuj Malhotra Anujwas a partner at Point State, a multi billion dollar New York based macro hedge fund. Prior to that he was a Managing Director at Duquesne Capital Management and a Vice President at Soros Fund Management. He graduated with a Summa Cum Laude in Finance and Computer Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.
5 Anu Aga Anu was chairperson of Thermax Limited. She is a Member of the Commonwealth Human Rights Commission. She is the first recipient of the Financial Express ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ and ‘Management Woman Achiever of the Year’ in 2002.
6 Saurabh Taneja Saurabh is the current CEO of The Akanksha Foundation.He is the founding school leader of Acharya Vinoba Bhave School, Akanksha's first stand-alone secondary school (Gr 8-10) which was started in 2013. He completed his bachelors degree in Technology from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi.
7 Srila Chaterjee Srila is COO and Executive Producer of Highlight Films, Bombay and a Founding Partner of Blue Frog Media. She has been Festival Director for two years at the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival, heads the Highlight Trust and is involved in design and art projects.
8 Neel Shahani Neel is the Head of Equities at Barclays. Prior to that he was Head of Sales Trading at India Infoline Ltd., and CLSA India Ltd.
9 Nandita Dugar Nandita has been involved with Akanksha for over ten years. She was a consultant with The Boston Consulting Group, prior to which she worked at Unilever in London.
