Mission/Vision
Health for all - Better Health Better Society. We envision a society in which citizens enjoy holistic health and well-being and they can as healthy and productive citizens contribute actively to the development of their communities and society.

Background
Sukarya was born out of the vision of a single person, Meera Satpathy, who galvanized the organization and has continued to be the main force behind the organization’s efforts. While running a successful business of her own, she witnessed the challenges faced by people, specifically mothers and children, living in the slums around the city, who lacked access to primary health care services. She was deeply disturbed about their life and death situation on a daily basis. Furthermore, she foresaw greater challenges ahead due to rapid urbanization. With the support of a few like-minded people, she founded Sukarya in 1998, with a mission to empower the underprivileged living in the slums and villages of Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan and provide them with quality primary health care services.

As a visionary, Ms. Meera Satpathy had already foreseen the key fundamental issues of Human Development much before the declaration of UN Millennium Development Goals in 2000. Sukarya was born with an objective of reducing IMR [infant mortality rate], improving MCH (Maternal Health), Gender equality/ empowering women as per the Millennium goals set by the UN. This clearly reflects her vision and understanding about the fundamental issues prevalent in our society. Throughout her work, Meera strived to give power back to her focus group, women and children, by improving the attitude to healthcare, thus reforming the society. Her unfailing vision links the quality of health directly to the quality of society, something that even the most seasoned agencies fail to spot. Meera’s clarity on the issue is encapsulated in the motto Better health, better society. Due to this unique approach, Sukarya today is not merely a developmental organization focusing on health but also an organization that values empowerment through raising awareness and enabling people to demand better services for their well-being.
