Lighting hut of a poor villager
A poor landless labor, Sarita Devi in village Raily of Patna district Bihar has three school going children. Power supply to this village is erratic and seldom available in evenings when the family needs that for cooking, studying etc. Kerosene lantern or lamp burning edible oil is the only option in such circumstances. Kerosene too is not easily available. It was becoming more challenging for the children to complete schoolwork. Balajee supplied a solar lamp to the family, which easily goes for 5-6 hours on one charge. It also plays the FM. Balajee Team provided the awareness about this solar lamp to the villagers. Balajee Sewa Sansthan is making people aware on how to use this solar lamp and what its benefits are. We also explain to them how the lamp can help in studies of children when electricity is not available and how kerosene lamp can become dangerous for the eyes in the long run. Before the arrival of solar lamp, the family cooked their food in early evenings and retired for bed early too. Children suffered more as they had to study in dim light of lantern lamp. Now the situation has changed. The glow on the face of housewife is good to watch. Children too are happy as the can study in night or early morning as per their will.
Need of Computer education for small town/village youth
Ravi Kumar S/o Sh. Sitaram Paswan belongs to schedule cast and economically very poor. They are a resident of ward no. 10, Salampur of Barh District Patna. Having completed his graduation in Arts, he wanted to join as a sales assistant in a nearby town. The owner wanted to record all his sales as well as expenses in computerized formats. He did not get the job because of not having any knowledge of computers. Many educated students from villages facing this type of problem. Ravi approached our training centre and shared his problem with our centre manager. Since he is very poor, he was not able to pay the training fee. Management of Balajee Sewa Sansthan arranged his fee; He learnt not only the basics of computers, but also MS office and became an expert in tally system of accounting. Balajee trains needy youth to become skilled, productive and creative in computer related jobs in our centre. Our centre was close to his place and he could come in morning or late evenings. Things have become so easy with knowledge of computers. Now he is earning Rs. 6000 pm working as an office assistant in a factory.
Open defecation is the loss of Health & Honour
A poor vegetable seller, Saroj Devi having a large family of 4 had no toilet in his house. The old family members and children faced embarrassment from their neighbors as most of them had toilets in their homes and this family had to go to field in early hours of the morning or late evenings to ease. This was difficult when people fell sick in the family. A small persuasion from Balajee made them realize to have a toilet at their home. Grant from PHED Bihar provided us an opportunity to build a low cost toilet at their house for which he gladly provided construction materials like bricks and labour. Now they use the facility and thank our efforts in providing them the facility.
Need of livelihood of poor women
A grateful Sangeeta narrates how the tailoring course has changed her life. Before joining the programme the only income of the family was from driving a rented three wheeler by her husband which brought around Rs. 6,000/ in a month after paying for the daily rent of the vehicle. She faced many times financial problems and was very worried about the education and for the future of her children. Sangeeta approached our training centre at Nakraunda of Balajee Sewa Sansthan and shared her problem with our centre manager. Having learnt of a fashion designing cum tailoring centre run by Balajee, Sangeeta a mother of two, joined for a six months, sewing and tailoring course at Balawala. She had to commute daily for 8 kms from Jogiwala to the centre at Nakraunda to attend the course. After successfully undergone the training for 6 months she was awarded with a diploma by the training institute run by the Balajee. Since she is very poor, she given free training by us. She now runs a tailoring shop from her home at Jogiwala and earns around 10,000 from stitching clothes in her spare time. She is all praise for the Balajee Sewa Sansthan, which runs a fashion designing cum tailoring course at Nakraunda where the poor women can learn the skill free of cost.
