 From darkness to light
Nathu Lal a forest guard from Bhadurpur had experienced worst phase of his life couple of years ago. His body got paralyzed due to some intake of toxic food substance. Six months ago he realized that he had haziness in his vision. He was overjoyed to know that an eye screening camp was organized by ICARE. He got his eye checked and it was diagnosed that he had cataract in his right eye. He has three children one girl and two sons, all married He was suggested for a surgery. By hearing the word surgery he got little worried not knowing what the expenses would be. He was hesitant to get into the ICARE ambulance leaving for the hospital. When he got to know that the surgery would be free he relaxed and got into the ambulance. He was brought into the base hospital along with other patients. He was examined again and his operation was done was successfully done the next day He realized that without vision life was dark and bleak. After surgery with vision restored he feels that all his problems are over.
 An Eye saved
Mukesh, a farmer led a happy life with his 2 children and wife. They were not rich but managed in what they had. His children went to a local school. He hurt his eye while harvesting his crop. He did not pay much attention to the pain thinking it would get ok. The eye started festering & became extremely painful. His work was affected which affected the household income. He came to the peripheral rural camp site run by ICARE where he was immediately advised to seek specialized care. He was brought back to ICARE hospital where the corneal ophthalmologist examined him and advised immediate surgery if his eye was to be saved. The operation was carried out and a therapeutic PK Penetrating Keratoplasty (cornea replacement) was done. It was thought that the vision restoration surgery could take place after a few months when the eye had settled down. The second operation too was carried out and soon Mukesh could see well enough to carry out his work. Being the only earning member, sitting at home after developing the painful eye condition was not bearable for Mukesh. Post surgery he could get back to his work. While it took a little time for things to get back into shape, gradually life started looking up and falling back into the same comfortable mould as before.
