Background
A group of likeminded people of Tripura joined hand to do some philanthropic work in the state in 1988. After three years in 1991 they got their group registered under Register of Society as All Tripura Scheduled Castes, Tribes & Minority Upliftment Council. In March 2008 the name of the organization was changed to Abhoy Mission. Since its inception, the organization was associated with various welfare and development activities.
 
Mr. Shyamal Deb, the founder and head of the Organization deserves special knowledge and skill write from the beginning in the field of disability and senior citizens etc. His ceaseless endeavour and dynamic efforts have brought about radical changes to set the organization on its onward orbit in the year 1988 and he has dedicated his good services for the welfare of the persons with disabilities and senior citizens. He believes in the ideology of Swami Vivekananda Life is short and give it up to a great cause.

 Ratna – An Inspiration
Ratna Das was enrolled in the SAMARTH project managed by Abhoy Mission, Agartala, Tripura when she was 6 years old. She suffered from Cerebral Palsy, stammered and was malnourished. At the time of enrolment, she could not lift her body in straight posture and she used to move with the help of all four limbs. She was dependent to others for her daily living activities. A comprehensive treatment plan including physiotherapy was devised for her. Emphasis was given on training of daily living activities. When she reached a stage where she could lift her body herself and begin walking with her lower limbs, training on reading, writing and household activities were introduced. Seeing her progress we decided to have her admitted into a regular school. In the beginning she was escorted to school on a wheel chair; now she is going to school independently on her own effort. Ratna can read and write in Bengali. She can write her name and address in English. She can solve simple arithmetic problems like addition and subtraction. She can do household activities like house cleaning, washing clothes, arranging beds etc. She supports other children as and when necessary. She takes part in different co-curricular activities like drawing, singing etc.
 
 Life Anew
Sri Premadhan Kanda was born in June, 1942 at Gopalnagar, Mohanpuar in Tripura. In his early days, he was a tea garden worker and belonged to a very poor family. Now he is 71 years old. In 2006 he suddenly had a stroke and from then he has become paralyzed. His sons are also working in the Tea Garden. With their small income they could not meet the expenditure of his treatment and nursing. His wife is looking after him. Abhoy Mission decided to support Sri Kanda under our Sponsor a Grandparent Programme. We provide him with some support every month to help him get by without being too much of a burden on his family. In winter we provided him with a blanket, bed sheet and some winter garments. Now he has got some sorts of relief and passing his days free from troubles.
