CHINAR Kashmir believes it is critical to address the needs of orphan & vulnerable children in conflict areas by providing them with a stable support system so that they can lift themselves out of cycle of violence & become productive members of society.
The Kashmir conflict had created a large number of orphans in addition to causing major social change. CHINAR Kashmir was formed to address the psycho-social needs of these orphans.
Mr. N.A Qureshi, President, CHINAR Kashmir, has secured a degree of Mechanical Engineering from Kashmir University in 1967. Started working in Public Works Department of J&K state. Mr. Qureshi retired from the post of Chief Engineer Mechanical Engineering Department, J&K government in December 2002.Mr. N.A Qureshi himself believes and wants others to believe in striving for the betterment of society at large and in particular to raise the awareness about people, kids in particular, living in disadvantageous conditions.

 Dreams Come True
Zahid Ahmad Karnai, 11 year old boy hailing from Ghat Mohalla, Awantipora, has always dreamt of studying in a good private school but the sudden death of his father in 2009 shattered his dreams of getting good education. This incident compelled them to shift from the village as there was no support left and decided to live separately. She got her kids admitted in a local government school. Zahid has three sisters, two elder to him. The oldest sister left her studies to support her mother as she had by then started to work as domestic help to sustain her family. After Zahid was identified as a potential beneficiary for Remote Child Sponsorship Programme, the committee framed for verification of this beneficiary and visited his house. It was found that his mother finds it difficult to support the basic needs of her family and is entirely dependent on a meager amount provided by a local religious leader. The committee on the spot decided to include Zahid in this programme. He is now part of RCSP for last two years and is being provided with all the benefits under this programme. Mother of Zahid was keen to provide her children very good education so she got them admitted in a well renowned private school of the locality, Umar Memorial High School, Awantipora after one year of their inclusion under RCSP. With the inclusion of Zahid under RCSP, his mother is now able to concentrate on other family issues like construction of a house of their own. His mother says that CHINAR Kashmir has secured future of Zahid and their late father would not have dreamt of anything better for him.
 Sharing the Sufferings
Asiya Shafi, a class 8 student was identified for this programme a year back. Her father is suffering from post traumatic paraplegia (spinal cord injury), which means he is not able to work and earn for the family. Asiya has two brothers and one sister all younger to her. This situation compelled her brother who is hardly 14 years of age to work as a bus conductor so that he can sustain his family. Only one brother is earning not more than 1000 rupees per month and takes care of entire family. Her mother was not able to fulfill their school expenses so they had thought to remove them from private school and admit them in government school. After verifying the condition of Asiya, the board decided to take her for sponsorship under RCSP. So she was enrolled under RCSP and was given clothing, monthly monetary help and stationary, Pheron, blanket, school expenses and other items provided under RCSP. Asiya continued her studies in the same private school as school fee was born by CHINAR. The monetary help given per month helps her in getting certain things like food and medicine. Although this is not sufficient for the family to run their home but they are satisfied that this support is very helpful in fulfilling needs of Asiya.
