Mission/Vision
IAB is committed to empower the visually challenged to become self reliant by providing best education, rehabilitation and placement opportunities.
 
Background
Being blind, Mr Jinnah the Founder wanted to start something to help his own fellow beings. He strongly believed that the visually impaired should have a decision making power hence 2/3 of the governing council and general body should be for them
 
Roshan Fathima is the current secretary general of IAB. She holds a Bachelors degree in Special Education for Visually Challenged and a Masters degree in Commerce. She has specialised in NGO Management and has been associated with education and rehabilitation of the visually challenged right from her younger days. She has been associated with IAB for the past 10 years.

1 M. Roshan Fathima Roshan Fathima is the current Secretary General of IAB. She holds a Bachelors degree in Special Education for Visually Challenged and a Masters degree in Commerce. She has specialised in NGO Management and has been associated with education and rehabilitation of the visually challenged right from her younger days. She has been associated with IAB for past 10 years and has been managing the IAB higher secondary special school for the past 5 years.
2 Ms. S. Manjula Ms. Manjula is visually challenged and has Masters degrees in Tamil and Education. She also holds a Senior Diploma in Teaching for the Blind. She has been a teacher at the Higher Secondary School at Virdhunagar from 1997. She is an alumni of IAB and has been associated with the institution for the past 28 years.
3 Dr. R. Surendranathan Dr. Surendranathan has been associated with the institution for the past 28 years. He has an independent surgical practice at Laxmi Nursing home in Madurai.
4 Ms.A. Chermathai A visually challenged person with a Masters in History and Education. She is among the first batch of IAB students and has taught for 12 years in a government school. A visually challenged person with a masters in History and Masters in education. She is among the first batch of IAB students and has thought for 12 years in government school.
5 Ms.S. Marimuthu She is a visually challenged person and has done Masters in Tamil and Education. Since 2000 she has been teaching in a government school for the Blind. A former student of IAB, she is very well experienced in teaching visually challenged children.
6 Dr. C. Ramasubramanaim Since its inception in 1985 he has been associated with the institution. He was a Professor of Psychiatry (Retired) at a medical college in Madurai. Passionate about community based psychiatry, he is the founder of M.S.Chellamuthu Trust in Madurai that serves people with mental disabilities.
7 Ms. S. Pavunthai A visually challenged person with a Masters degree in History and a Bachelors degree in Education. She is one of the first batch of IAB students. A gifted teacher, she has 16 years of experience in teaching at a government school and excels in teaching Mathematics to both sighted and blind children.
8 M.Abdul Raheem Abdul Raheem M graduated in Engineering from Madurai Kamaraj University in 2001 and has completed Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from SCDL, Pune. He started his career in Engineering sector and has worked at various capacities in Wipro Technologies and Honeywell.
9 Ms.S .Anjali  She is a visually challenged person and has done Masters in Tamil and Education. Since 2000 she has been teaching in a government school for the Blind. A former student of IAB she is very well experienced in teaching visually challenged children.
10 Ms.R. Balasaraswathy She is visually challenged and has done her Masters in Tamil and Bachelors in Education. She is employed as a telephone operator with the Central Bank of India, Madurai, from 1989. She is an alumnae of IAB.

 Story of Thangapandi
T.Thangapandi was born in a small village near Virdhunagar. He was visually challenged by birth. He is studying Bachelor of English in Madurai Melur College. Though there is hostel facilities in the college itself, due to the regulations and other factors he cannot stay there. Besides, the high cost of boarding and lodging can never be borne by him. A Sound Mind in a Sound Body is the basic principle for all. He was searching for a good place to stay and access his college education. So, he was admitted in our Hostel and provided with a comfortable stay and food. Another main aspect of the hostel facilities is they are provided with Part-time readers in the evenings helping them to study their lessons, record writing and recording lessons. Thangapandi was much happier to be at our hostel. The assistance by readers helped him a lot to study his lessons. He felt it as a better place to be there than his home and his thought was to study and earn to make his parents live in a good condition.
 
 Educating a deserving child.
Anbarasan was born in Thotipatti with partial vision loss from birth. His father Muthuraman earnings were not sufficient for education. They came to know that his vision loss couldn’t be cured. They were also not aware of the special schools too. Then he came to know about IAB and given counseling to join schooling but they were not capable to spend for his education. Anbarasan’s parents were given counseling to accept his blindness and educate him in a proper special school so that he will be groomed well. The cost for education, his study materials, his stay, food and all amenities were provided to him so that he can continue his education He and his parents were made to come out of the depression to educate him for his excellent future. All the study materials along with comfortable stay and hygienic food were provided. Since, education is the essential and first step for life he felt happy.
 
 Providing a laptop to assist in higher education.
Balamurugan aged 19, a visually impaired boy finds difficult to cope up with the lessons taught in his college. He is doing his Bachelor in Tamil Literature. In case of college, there are no prescribed textbooks or reference material in neither Braille nor audio. Notes given in the class should be noted down. So he found it difficult to continue his study without help from others. His interest and talents was identified and we approached a philanthropist who financed to get him a Netbook with which he can explore more information and learn well. With the help of the Netbook, like his sighted counterparts he can record notes in class itself and maintains the same for future reference. He became independent with the netbook. The notes taken can be preserved properly and he can use the same for examinations. Besides he can also browse the net for reference material the first step for becoming self reliant.
