Pawan’s Story – Another chance at life
Pawan’s father a daily wage labourer spent all the money saved for his daughter’s wedding on Pawan’s treatment. His grandparents thought Cancer was contagious and incurable and were just waiting for him to die! His father, however brought him to Mumbai for treatment and would have stayed on the streets were if not for the chance to stay at our Centre We offered Pawan and his parents a place to stay while he underwent Chemotherapy. The parents were counseled by our Centre Manager and with the teacher helping Pawan with his school work, we made sure that he was not lagging behind his school mates when he returned to Jharkhand. We gave him nutritional supplements which helped in his therapy. Because Pawan had a place to stay, he could successfully complete his sessions of Chemotherapy. Finally, because he is now a part of the St. Jude family, he knows he has a place to stay when he returns for his follow up treatment. Thus Pawan will be able to complete his treatment and live life like a normal child once again. Pawan continues with his education and has responded positively to his treatment because of the increased and better nutrition we have been supplying him with.
