Honhaar Ladki |
|
Nagla Mahadev is an urban slum located in Freeganj area of Agra. Here is a government primary school (1st -5th class). Most of the slum’s children are admitted in it and they come to school. But in other hand, we have seen there is a large population of adolescent girls who were wandering without education, they dropped out their studies much early mostly after 5th standard, because of the financial problem of their family and conservative attitude of their parents towards girl child. Most of the girls do their household chores & take care of their siblings. There is a girl Suman, living in the Nagla Mahadev. Her father is a shoe labour, who is hardly arranging the square meal for the family. For last 5 months, she stayed at her home, she didn’t go to school. When she came to the school she looked joyous and active but after left the school, she looked unhappy.
IDF team members met with these girls and their parents & aware them towards the importance of education for girls. Then, IDF launched the girl’s sponsorship program named Honhaar Ladki Campaign. Through this program, girls are sponsored for their education and they benefited all school supplies i.e. Fees, bag, stationary, books etc. IDF has organized motivational counseling sessions for these girls and parents. IDF admitted these girls into the private school, so that they can continue their studies and make their bright future. Regarding Suman, IDF team members visited her home and asked with her parents “Why is she staying at home? Why is she not going to school?” Parents said that their financial condition is not good so as they cannot bear her school fees. They also wanted to send her to the school but they can’t do anything. Then, we motivated them and informed them about our education sponsorship program. Immediately, we admitted Suman into the formal school.
Our sponsored girls are regular in the formal schools including Suman. They could able to continue their studies after a long gap. They look more happy and sincere towards the education. Suman has a dream to be a teacher and teach children like her. Now, she gets up early in the morning, dress up more beautifully and go to school regularly. Her parents are happy to see their daughter into the school. |

Transforming lives of the children |

Etmadpur is a town (tehsil) in Agra district in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. There are many government primary and upper primary schools. But the enrollment of children is very low, lack of quality education, inefficient teaching methodologies, large gap between schools and parents, lack of discipline, no. of dropout & out of children were more etc. The grants provided by government for development and maintenance of school were not accountable & utilized properly i.e. there were no toilet and water facility for children, roofs of the classes were drooping etc.
IDF organized counseling sessions and awareness workshops for children and their parents about importance of education and government’s schemes for the children, Prepare teaching schedules, Motivated parents to send their children to the School regularly and readmitted dropout children in to the schools. IDF trains Teachers in creative learning techniques to produce a more interactive learning environment and present the syllabus in more meaningful ways. IDF bridge the gap between community and school. IDF utilized all government grants for the development of the schools i.e. infrastructure etc. and maintained transparency & accountability.
Through IDF’s intervention, increased awareness among parents towards importance of education, govt. schemes for education, numbers of dropouts were readmitted in the schools; teachers use creative and play way method in teaching to generate interest of the children. Hope for Life |
|
Anjali, age 9, is an orphan living in an urban slum Nagla Mahadev of Agra District. She lost her parents when she was just 6 years old. She is living with her uncle. She did all household chores from morning to night. Her Aunt did not send her to school because she was conservative and reluctant towards educating Anjali. Her childhood was passing through the worst conditions without any ray of hope for a beautiful life.
Indian Dreams Foundation went into her slum. Our volunteers met and spoke with her uncle and aunt about the importance of education for Anjali and even for every child. We motivated them towards studies for Anjali and insisted them to send her to school. We also introduced them to Children Rights.
Anjali goes to the government school adopted by Indian Dreams Foundation. Anjali is one of the active and regular students. She is in grade 4. She learns Hindi, English, Maths, General knowledge, good habits, Art & Craft activities, dancing, singing, sports, etc. Anjali wants to become a teacher and teach kids like her. |
