Mission/Vision
To see that every individual with Intellectual Disability has access to state of art therapy, education and training to develop vocational skills thus equipping them to be self-sufficient individuals in Society.
 
Background
In 1944 it started with a simple dream – that of a parent’s – Mr & Mrs Hormusjee Vakeel’s dream to provide their child Dina who was born with Down’s syndrome a place to thrive and be happy in, as no such establishment existed to serve the needs of special children at that time. It started from their home serving a few children to today a two-acre campus in Sewri – Mumbai. Today, we are one of the oldest and largest not for profit institutes in India serving children and adults with intellectual disability.
 
Archana Chandra – our CEO has previously worked in various capacities- from in Marketing, Public Relations, and Human Resource Development at The Akanksha Foundation, to Informix (a division of IBM), and Bennett & Coleman. Apart from her full time role at Jai Vakeel, she is also on the Board of SRCC which is building the largest Children's Pediatric Hospital in the country, and is on advisory board of Annamrita , and The Antarang Foundation.

No. of individuals with Intellectual Disability impacted by the assessment leading to Diagnosis, early intervention, therapy, training and rehabilitation: 142
No. of Students reassessed at the age of 18 to decide various options for rehabilitation. The options include Vocational training, Open, Sheltered, home based, Self employment and Respite Care: 68
No. of children assessed, diagnosed and provided with early intervention, home based therapy, medication, nutritional supplements, and orthopedic and ophthalmic interventions: 2066
Students are provided training in functional academics and pre vocational skills. Students are also taught activities of daily living.: 455
 
Rewards & Recognition
In 2016, Jai Vakeel Foundation and Research Centre was awarded the Guidestar India Transparency Award 2016 by the Guidestar India GuideStar India Advanced Level- Gold Certification Award.
