Mission/Vision
Bringing Childhood To The Children Who Never Had It.

Background
Matthew Kurian was appalled at the state of the children living in a slum. Anita from the UK was shocked at the conditions of the children on the streets. Both had the same Dream. El Shaddai was Born!

Matthew Kurian is the Co-founder and Managing Trustee of the El Shaddai Charitable Trust. He decided to immersed himself in Church and social work. In 1993 he started working with alcoholics and drug addicts in Goa. A chance visit to a slum changed Matthew’s perspective on life completely their appalling and desperate lifestyle shocked him and he began teaching them the importance of hygiene, clean drinking water and healthy food. He was moved when he saw them begging on the streets, collecting rubbish and even eating out of garbage bins to relieve their hunger. He started children’s home in a small rented place in Vagator with 15 slum kids in 1997.

From begging in the streets to regular student
Adamma & her siblings lived with their parents at the bus stand in the city of Mapuca in Goa. The parents were beggars! The children were in a filthy condition and followed the same profession as their parents. Our Field worker found this family and gave counseling. The parents were adamant and refused to change their way of life! Our worker convinced them that the children have a right to a proper Childhood and Education and convinced them to enroll them with El Shaddai. Adamma is the second youngest of the five (3 boys & 2 girls). Adamma because of her age was given residence in the House of Kathleen our home for girls between the ages of 3 & 8 yrs, where she was given a bath, clean clothes and a bed. She was admitted on the Feb 05, 2005. Adamma started her schooling in the Kindergarten at Shanti Niketan School. She proved to be a polite, well mannered child. Adamma took to hostel life and school like a fish to water! Although a little slow in school work in the begining, she picked up well and showed good progress as the months passed. She works hard enjoys the company of children of her own age. Her progress is very positive and she is now studying in grade 3 and stays in House of Kathleen.
