Provide care for poor children in tribal areas by sponsoring our Balmitra Centre for a month, INR 3900

Samerth Charitable Trust (SCT) had set up many educational centres in 2011-12 to provide elementary education to several boys and girls of Baiga community in Chhattisgarh. This community belongs to the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG). There are many educational centres in Kota, Gaurella, Marwahi and Lormi blocks in Chhattisgarh.

How It Works

• The instructors in these centres called “Balmitras,” are involved in educational awareness, development work of the village over and above functioning as a teacher of the centres.
• They go to villages regularly, conduct meetings with the community and communicate the objectives of setting up educational centres.
• The Balmitras are recruited from the community itself.
• While institutional funders finance the above programme, there is a need of additional centres to bridge the gap between demand and supply.

• 20 – Number of additional centres that the NGO plans to set up with the help of funds received through Give India
• 105 – Number of educational centres set up by SCT
• 2293 – Number of boys belonging to the Baiga community of Chhattisgarh who are provided elementary education

Story of Sohan
Sohan Kumar Baiga, age 4 years of Naktabandha(Bilaspur) village was unable to go to school as pre-school services were not available in he tola/hamlet. He used to loiter around in the forest, fishing and collecting forest produce. Sometimes he would venture in the wild all alone and that was dangerous.
The Samerth balmitra went door to door and undertook survey and created a list of children of 3 to 6 years. The children started coming to school. Sohan started taking interest in the creative pedagogy and was a keen observer and picked up development milestones. He was attached to the programme from 2009 up to July 2011.
Two years of constant teaching and learning helped him to develop his early development cycle. He was later admitted in Prathmik Shala, a primary school in Naktabandha in class I. The school teacher was very appreciative of his achievement and ability to learn fast. His foundation as laid systematically as per the learning chart and milestones due to creative ways of teaching young schooling. This was taught by Mobile Crèche on how to teach children creatively. The child is sharp and open to new ways of learning
