Overview

J Watumull Global Hospital & Research Centre (GHRC) runs a Tuberculosis (TB) project in which TB patients (beneficiaries) are identified and given nutritional supplements.
How It Works

• J Watumull Global Health & Research Centre (GHRC) has field workers employed in remote villages to identify TB patients through door-to-door screening and questioning of villagers.
• Patients testing positive are given nutritional supplements.
• The government provides the free medicines.
• GHRC's role is to ensure that the patients comply with the medicine protocol and make a complete recovery.
• Supplements include a packet of chickpeas and a cup of milk/a couple of tins of milkmaid per month in places where fresh milk is unavailable.
• Health workers go around the village, distribute and ensure that the patient takes the supplements along with the medicines.
• GHRC also helps in distribution of medicines.

Sponsor nutritional supplements for a TB patient
Kumari Babli, daughter of Mitha, lives in village Phoolabai Kheda. She works as farm laborer, her income stopped after she contracted tuberculosis. She was put on medication but could barely afford a meal a day.
Our field workers intervened by feeding Babli a serving of high protein horse gram (chana) every day.
This extra protein helped Babli grow stronger and with the help of the medication, she has been cured of tuberculosis and gone back to her job.
