Aid the development of a poor child by sponsoring his/her non-formal education for 6 months, INR 3650
 Mail

Deepalaya s non-formal education centre runs at Adarsh Nagar, near Azadpur, New Delhi. The students are enrolled from nearby slums, through admission drives, word of mouth reference etc. The centres impart English/Hindi-medium education based on the NCERT syllabus (LKG to Grade VIII). There are 300+ students studying now. The students are taken in after a year or so; they are then mainstreamed into main schools. They are provided remedial classes for this. Non Formal education helps an out-of-school child or one who has dropped out to enhance his level of education so that s/he could be then admitted/readmitted into formal school (9am-noon or 2pm-5pm). Non-formal education helps these children to get academic guidance, as parents are unable to provide such help. A learning child would always love to go to school hence this helps reduce dropout rates. Within 6 months these children are mainstreamed to formal education with Government schools after proper OBE examination at Deepalaya s end

Kishori-An Idle Mind, Devils Workshop
Kishori was one of the most playful and naughty child living in a slum cluster of Okhla Phase-I. He and his group were known for their hooliganism, eve-teasing and for creating a general nuisence in the community. His parents were extremely worried about in the way he was going and seriously sought help to mend his ways.
When Deepalaya started working in his slum cluster our workers provided him personal counselling and dedicated attention. They were able to work closely with Kishori and motivate him to change his behaviour. He and his group were enrolled into non formal education centre and also given a lot of opportunities to develop the potential within him. He was gradually enrolled into the nearby Govt. school from where he completed his schooling. He was also encouraged to pursue his graduation.
Thanks to persistence and patience from our staff, Kishori is a changed person today. He is teaching at Deepalaya Golekuan centre where he not only educates but also teaches chilidren from the community about values for life. In addition he is a respected member of his society and is often called upon to take crucial decisions. He is also a member of Deepalaya Abhinaya Samuh - a theatre group, which regularly promotes social messages across different communties.
