Contribute to a Fund to help improve infrastructure of Vidya and Child's project centre, INR 1000

Vidya and Child reaches out to over 1,100 socio economically marginalized children through its education programmes. They started 13 years ago in one classroom. Today, they work in 5 communities with a dedicated team of 100 teachers and volunteers. Children study from nursery to class V, through their non-formal school programme (NFE); thereafter they are mainstreamed to public schools. After-school support is provided to the students of class VI-X through their After School Support Program (ASSP). Children who complete Class X join the Foundation Program where they get financial, tutorial and mentoring support so that they are better prepared to make right career choices. Students in the Foundation Program have a long association with Vidya & Child. Most of them had started in the organisation s NFE program, got supported through ASSP; and have spent most of their growing years with the organisation. It is imperative for these students to pursue their education further to build their careers and support their families in future. In today’s day and age children are fascinated by the world of computers and often there are concepts which are better explained with the use of technology. Vidya & Child has thus set up computer labs across all their centres. Plans are being worked upon to integrate computers with other subjects rather than ‘Computers’ being a subject by itself . This donation will help the organisation support our costs of fans, tube lights, furniture etc. that help keep these centres functional.

Integrating computers as part of the curriculum
Children attended regular classes where teaching was restricted to use of blackboard, books and other teaching aids like posters, flash cards etc…
We introduced use of computers initially on a trial basis to explain certain Science & Math concepts to students of Class III. Children were allowed to play with a few science games and quizzes thereafter.
Children could understand the concept clearly with the help of a 3D visual medium. They could answer questions posed to them with more confidence. Even the teachers felt that use of computers helps them explain certain concepts better. Children enjoyed the class and look forward to these classes.
