Overview

Dr Shroff's Charity Eye Hospital is considered to be one of the best Eye /ENT care providers in North India today. They are thankful to their donors in partnering their cause and giving sight/hearing to thousands of less privileged people.

The Basics

Tympanoplasty is a surgical procedure generally used to repair a ruptured ear drum (commonly known as leaking ears) but sometimes involves the repair of the tiny bones in the inner ear. This condition can definitely lead to total deafness if not treated on time. A ruptured ear drum can be caused by a ear infection or injuries to the ear.

How It Works

• After the surgery the patient is given instruction to be followed to ensure the success of the surgery procedure.

• A tympanoplasty can take weeks to months to heal.

Tympanoplasty surgery of Sanha at SCEH
Sanha 17 yrs old girl was very upset when she came to our hospital with her ear problem She complained of profuse right ear discharge since 3 years. She was facing tremendous difficulties in her day-to-day activities due to her leaking ears, continuous pain and reduced hearing abilities. She has 3 siblings; her mother being the sole earner of the family, as her father died many years ago, was finding it hard to make the two ends meet. Therefore her problem was being neglected as they had no means to go to a doctor. One day someone in their neighborhood informed them about our hospital and they approached us for help.
In October 2008, she underwent tympanoplasty surgery of the right ear; she stayed overnight at the hospital for 2 days, which included physical examination on one day, surgery on the next day and finally follow-up before she was discharged after change of bandage next day.
When she came for a follow-up, she was a happy person, as her hearing had improved and the pain had gone. She has visited many times for her check-ups and is doing fine and attending a vocational training course.
