Christel House Learning Center (CHLC) provides free of cost quality education to children from poor (family combined monthly income below Rs. 3,000/- a month) families. This year 916 have been enrolled (444 boys and 472 girls). All students admitted in the school are from urban slums and orphanages in and around Bangalore. CHLC has classes from KG to grade 12, and has 66 teachers. Music, art, sports, yoga, life skills are also taught along with the curriculum. The learning center provides free education, good health care, wholesome nutrition and a caring environment. At the school, the NGO provides medical help. General screening, dental screening, immunizations, medical supplements such as iron tablet, B-Complex with vitamin C, half yearly de-worming, also minor issues such as cold, cough are taken care of through allopathic and homeopathy treatment. The screening is done by a team of doctors from various departments and is done half-yearly and annually for Kindergarten students and the rest of the students respectively. Children are also treated for various sicknesses on a case to case basis. CHLC intends to spend approximately Rs. 7 lacs for this medical support. For transportation of our students from home to school and back, 1 CHLC Bus and 9 hired buses from Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) are used. Each day a bus travels approximately 70 kms both ways.
