St Jude India ChildCare Centres provide free, safe, clean, hygienic accommodation to cancer affected children and their parents traveling from rural and semi urban parts of the country to big cities to avail world class cancer treatment for their children. The families often find themselves on the streets due to lack of proper place to stay in metro cities. This makes the children an easy prey to secondary infections. The filth and squalor in the environment negates the effects of therapy and sometimes, a delay in the treatment process. St Jude believes in providing holistic care and support to the children to enable them to seamlessly complete the treatment process and fully recover from the disease. The housing facilities at St Jude centres provide hygienic environment conducive to their recovery. he beneficiaries are identified as needy and below poverty line by the social workers at the treating hospitals. The files of these children are marked ‘No Cost’ by the hospitals that is they receive zero to low cost treatment. The families are admitted into the centre after a further due diligence by the highly trained staff of St Jude. The benefit reaches the beneficiaries directly as the service is provided

Helping to Carry the Burden
Needy children from outlying areas undergoing cancer treatment at major hospitals in big cities often find themselves on the pavements or streets around the treating hospitals, along with their parents, because they cannot afford the cost of staying in the cities. On the streets, there are no clean sanitary facilities, nowhere for the patients to receive nutritious food and an overall lack of security. Often the families, in desperation, have to abandon therapy and return to their village with a child who has not been fully treated.
The treating hospitals find a marked difference in the health and attitude of the children staying at St Jude centres. The positive changes are gain in the weight and height of the children, decrease in the morbidity and mortality rate among children and positive change in the attitude of families towards hygiene and sanitation. St Jude India ChildCare Centres play a large role in helping families finish the treatment and this leads to high chances of cure.
St Jude provides these children safe, clean and hygienic accommodation and other facilities such as transport to the hospital and back to the centre, quality nutrition, emotional support etc. The infection free and comfortable environment is conducive to their recovery as it minimizes any contact with foreign bodies in their surroundings leading to timely treatment and positive impact on their over-all well-being.
