Overview

J Watumull Global Hospital & Research Centre (GHRC) runs a Tuberculosis (TB) project in which TB patients (beneficiaries) are identified and given nutritional supplements.
How It Works

• GHRC employs field workers in remote villages, who identify the beneficiaries through door-to-door screening and questioning of villagers.
• The medicines are provided by the Government; GHRC ensures that patients comply with the medicine protocol and recover completely.
• The supplements provided by GHRC are the same for all patients – a packet of chickpeas and a cup of milk.
• If fresh milk is not available, a couple of tins of Milkmaid are provided per month.
• GHRC’s health workers visit the beneficiaries, distribute these supplements and ensure that they have these along with the TB medicine.
• They also monitor the dosages of TB medicines given to the beneficiaries.
• Contributions will be used to fund the CT scans to identify the beneficiaries.

Statistics

• 1 kg. – Quantity of chickpeas is provided to the patients as a food supplement
• 2 – Number of tins of milkmaid provided to the patients in case fresh milk is not available

Support a poor person to undergo a diagnostic CT scan
Goma Garasia is a 75 year old farmer. He came to our Trauma Unit with abdominal pain. He has a son and a daughter. The son works as a daily wage laborer in farm.
We enabled Goma to undergo a CT scan for no charge. He needed the scan and if we had not stepped in, he would have avoided treatment.
Goma was found to have multiple lesions in his liver which ruled out the possibility of surgical intervention.
