J Watamull Global Hospital & Research Centre (GHRC) is a multi-disciplinary hospital located in Mt Abu, a hill town in Rajasthan, west India. Since its inception in 1991, the hospital has evolved to become a centre of excellence in several medical specialities with a strong focus on community outreach and community relevant research.

The Basics

J Watumull Global Hospital & Research Centre (GHRC) has a policy to offer free or subsidised treatment to poor out-patient and indoor patients.

How It Works

• Beneficiaries are identified through screening programmes held in villages and towns.
• Sometimes there are walk-in patients who are evaluated for eligibility and then offered treatment for free or for significant concessions.
• The patients who can afford at least some part of the treatment are encouraged to make part payments.
• Contributions will be utilized towards treatment of victims of trauma who have been identified as beneficiaries.

Statistics

• 60-90% - The percentage of treatment expenses that are funded by the hospital for patients who are offered concessions

Helping an economically underprivileged victim of trauma
Bhagwat Verma works as a casual electrician. He has no insurance. He fell from an electrical pole while at work and sustained fractures of both his heels. He needed medical attention but could not afford the cost of surgery.
His fractured heels were set and he was kept under observation until he had healed sufficiently. He was relieved from his pain.
Once Bhagwat has completely recovered, he will be able to resume his livelihood. He will not suffer from after-effects of poor surgery nor infections because of being operated on in an unhygienic condition.
