From the four walls of the house to a life of dignity and independence.
Nineteen year old Basavanagowda fell down from a coconut tree and injured his spine, in his home town of Gondabal in Koppal Taluk. The resulting restriction in movement meant curtailed his movements and led to an increased threat in contactures, muscular pressure and depression.
After being identified by one of Samarthya's field workers, he was referred to their rehabilitation centre for spinal cord injuries. The sessions on bladder movement, therapy, counselling, and independent movement
Thanks to the mobility aids and appliances provided by Samarthya (Chaitanya world made wheelchair, Calipers and a Walker), Basavanagowda has made a lot of progress. His quality of life has greatly improved as he is now mobile and can move on his own using a regular adapted wheelchair with cushioning that prevents pressure sources, contractures and further disability. He is now pursuing PUC 2nd year and is living his life independently. He has also gone back to being active in his community.
